No batteries. No screens. Just pure wave energy.
Setup
Roll out the mat on a flat surface — floor, grass, beach, wherever the vibe is right. Each player picks a surfer character and places it at the start of the wave. Shuffle the cards and place them face-down in the centre. You're ready to drop in.
How to Play
On your turn, roll the dice and move your surfer along the wave. Land on a space and draw a card — cards can send you charging up the wave, wiping out back to a previous spot, or triggering a challenge for other players. First surfer to ride the wave to the end wins.
Tips for Playing with Younger Kids
- Ages 5–6: Skip the challenge cards and just use the dice. First to the end wins — simple and fast.
- Ages 7+: Full rules, full chaos. This is where it gets competitive.
- Mixed ages: Give younger players a head start of 2–3 spaces. Keeps it fair and keeps everyone in the game.
House Rules Worth Trying
The best games have house rules. Here are a few from the Tubular crew:
- Wipeout Revenge: If you draw a wipeout card, you can pass it to another player instead of taking it yourself. Once per game.
- Double Dice: On your birthday, roll two dice and take the higher number. Radical.
- Last Wave: The player in last place gets to draw two cards on their next turn. Keeps the game alive until the end.
- Team Mode: Split into two teams. First team to get both surfers to the end wins. Great for bigger groups.
How Long Does a Game Take?
Most games run 20–30 minutes. Short enough to play again. Long enough to matter.
